Springs & Cables Are Broken

If a garage door is to operate smoothly along its tracks, then the various springs and cables that drive the mechanism need to be in working order.

If your garage door has come off its tracks, ‘jumped cables’ could be the problem. Namely, when one or both of the cables attached to the cable drums have become slack, causing an imbalance.

There are various things that can cause jumped cables: something knocking the garage door while it is in motion, carelessness when opening the door manually or simple wear and tear – especially if the cables are old. Perhaps you’ve noticed, then, that all of these problems can be avoided if you respect the fragility of your garage door’s mechanism.

The most common cause of garage door derailment: someone hit the door with their car. If this is the case, it should be fairly obvious. Nevertheless, a heavy blow to the door is likely to wreak havoc with the mechanism and, as such, it’s vital to be extremely careful when entering and exiting your garage.

Worn-out rollers

If one or two of the rollers on your garage door breaks due to wear and tear this will, in turn, place greater stress on the remaining rollers. If this stress breaks additional rollers, your garage door is at risk of coming off its tracks. Any imbalance in the system is bound to cause a problem eventually, so it’s important to make sure you spot any abnormality in the alignment of your garage door as early as possible, no matter how small.

What’s the best way to fix it?

When observing the problem, it could be tempting to try and fix your wonky garage door yourself; however, this isn’t the best idea, especially if it’s raised up. Your garage door is very heavy and, as a result, could prove extremely dangerous if you tamper with the mechanism yourself.

Instead, we would advise that you call us and the rest is our work. We will be happy to serve you. Looking forward to work with you.
